lock up on boot mandrake 9.0

I just got a new desktop, installed mandrake 9.0 and it worked but had some issues do after messing everything up with an XP install I decided to re-install. Partitioned the disk to clear everything, even XP partition, and installed fine, but now when I boot, the system locks up everytime at "finding module dependencies" or something I can't remember the exact line. I have re-installed at least 5 times with different hardware/options etc. and nothing works. Very frustrating!

So I was going to try SuSE instead, burnt a boot cd for SuSE and tried to run that, it was confusing but I somehow can get it to boot in mandrake from the SuSE boot cd menu. It still doesn't find the modules or whatever but it boots up, there are many problems with the boot.

Can somebody help I am at wits end!!!
thanks

How long did you wait before you decided it "locked up"? Sometimes at that point, on my semi-fast system, I have to wait more than 10 minutes, then it continues on. I don't know why it takes so long, but maybe you are just giving up too soon.

Welcome to LQ

he he he, I know, I would too. However, since I use Mandrake less often than Slack, I don't worry about figuring out what's wrong or fixing it

Cool
