lock screen doesn't work

I'm running Red Hat, and I see that the lock screen functionality doesn't seem to work. I mean, nothing happens when I click on it. Any ideas why? Thanks...

Check that you have an xsrceensaver proces running (ps ax | grep xscreensaver). There are two parts to xscreensaver. One part is running all the time, and the part that runs when you actually click the button just tells the running process to lock the display.
