Location of the GNOME Desktop

Can someone please tell me the file path for the GNOME desktop. I need to reinstall FC1 and I need a file off the desktop before I format. The problem is I cant boot my machine. I am using the FC1 install disk as a rescue disk to back up my files. Thanks.

your desktop should be in a folder called 'desktop' in your home directory.

This is normally stored at:

/home/%users%/desktop

If you were using gnome as root then it would be in:

/root/desktop/

EDIT:
You can also type

find -name file

this is case sensitive, and it uses wildcards.

Thanks, but thats not really what I am looking for. That has the trash, start here, home, and floppy folers. I am looking for my actual desktop. I have a file on there that I need to get by way of a command shell. I had a system crash and I am backing up my files with a rescue disk. I have seen it before, I just dont rember where it is, nor can I find it. Thanks.

I wasn't looking for a specific file. But the file path for the desktop. I found it though, for anyone who has questions about this later your desktop is hidden. The file path is /home/user/.gnome-desktop. Any file or directory beginning with a "." is a hidden file. Thanks. Hope this helps with any future questions about this.
