location of logs in Mandrake 10

I have installed Mandrake 10 Official, & am having trouble connecting to a samba server. Sometimes it connects & sometimes it doesn't. When the system is booting up, it shows an error message on attempting to mount the smb share but it scrolls so fast I can't read it. Is this logged somewhere, & if so where? Thanks

You could try

dmesg | less

but your error probably comes too late in the boot process.

The normal location for the logs in linux is /var/log/* but I don't know if that is where mandrake puts them. Look for kernel.log, kern.log, sys.log, system.log etc. They are usually pretty big files, so you might want to familiarize yourself with the tail command. For example,

tail -n 250 filename

cats the last 250 lines into the less command.

Thanks for the imput. The logs are in /var/logs with mandrake. I found the right file, unfortunately it did not shed much light on the problem. Thanks again.
