Location of Gnome auto-mount script?

I am successfully using rdiff-backup to backup my /home directory to an external USB hard drive. This requires me entering a command on the command line. What I would like to do is have this automagically occur whenever I plug the external USB hard drive in.

When I plug the USB hard drive in, Gnome/Mint/Linux detects this as it then automatically mounts the drive and makes it available. Is this controlled by a script? If so, where is it? Would I be able to add the rdiff-backup command into it?

Thanks in advance,
Arthur

See http://www.greenfly.org/talks/autofs/autofs.html

Kernels are almost always automount capable.

In many Linux distributions including Kubuntu it will be automatic

Thanks for the reply. I am using Linux Mint, which is based on Ubuntu, in turn based on Debian. I understand that it has auto mount enabled, as when I plug my USB hard drive in it automatically mounts it. The slideshow you linked to talks about configuring autofs. I can't find autofs on my system, so I think it must be using something else, am I right?

When Linux Mint detects and mounts my USB hard drive, does it run a script? Can I make it run a command when it performs the mount?

You need to know about udev and module init tools

Also see the man pages ... a few things are missing in the tutorial
