Loading Ubuntu 7.04 onto Laptop: ACPI issues!

Hi,

I've been wanting linux to dual boot on my laptop for ages, but until recently the HDD has been too small. I have just got a bigger HDD, installed XP SP2 and then tried to install Ubuntu 7.04.

The installation seems to go fine until it looks for the ACPI modules. Then progress halts, soon to be followed by the optical drive going quiet. Hard power off is the only solution from that point.

I have tried another distro as well, but it come up with exactly the same issue.

Over to you guys and girls... I am lost.

many thanks

See https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/6837. There is a suggestion that "acpi=off" should be enough rather than "noapic"

openSUSE

arochester,

thanks very much for the reply. I tried what was mentioned in the thread you linked me to but unfortunatley it didn't work for me.

I am however the prowd new owner of a Laptop that I can install openSUSE on! It's loading options gave me a little more control over the ACPI.

thanks
