Loading Suse Linux 9.0 loads to the point of ramdisk:Compressed image found at block0

I had to use Smart BootManager's 3.7 ver 1 to install from the cd-rom. The cd loads and I get several options non seam to solve the problem. The 4th option alows for manual install. Which allow for command to be placed. I have not found any command to help get me over my problem.

Basic the problem is that the system stop installing at ramdisk:Compressed image found at block 0 which I think is my Smart BootManager.

Thanks.

Todd

you might try something like LINUX NOAUTO or LINUX NOPROBE. I will try to look more here in a few min .... I have the SuSE 9.0 disk here

If you have Windows already installed on your machine, you might also try making a boot floppy. There are utilities on your SuSE CD for doing this. Boot your PC from the floppy, and then tell it to do a CD install.

I have tryed booting from floppy but then I do not have cd rom support. No windows on machine. Is linux noauto or linux nonprobe command or files on the cds.

my bios do not support cd rom boot. That why I loaded boot manager. Thanks.

I had the same problem with Fedora C1. I multi boot with win98se, Mandrake9.2 and FedoraC1. Using lilo, when I boot to FedoraC1, it stopped when it reach : ramdisk:Compressed image found at block 0. It did not happened when I boot with floppy.
What should I do to rectify this problem ?
Thanks in advance.

For what it's worth :)

I have succeeded to solve my problem with " RAMDISK :Compressed image found at block 0 " error when booting into Fedora Core 1.
I observed that the problem arise if I boot using lilo from Mandrake 9.2 and not if I use boot disk.

In Fedora Core 1 /boot, I have files :
- vmlinuz-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl
- initrd-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl.img

In boot disk I have files :
- vmlinuz
- initrd.img

So I copied those boot disk files into Fedora Core 1 /boot and changed lilo.conf entries to reflect these files. Run /sbin/lilo.
When I reboot into Fedora Core 1 from lilo, I did not get that error anymore. Thank God :)

I have the same issue (hang at the point of the "ramdisk: Compressed image found at block 0" message) with my newly installed SuSE 9 Pro distro. Booting from floppy didn't seem to help.

Can work around it by booting from CD, selecting the "Manual Installation" option & starting "linuxrc". This gets me past the point of the hang and subsequently allows me the option to eject the CD and continue booting from disk.

Using GRUB rather than LILO - presumably I need to do something with "initrd" within the "/boot" partition? What can I replace it with?
