Unhappy Loading Mandrake 10 Using Lilo

I have Mandrake 10 (Kernal 2.6.3-7mdk) using Lilo 25.?.? which was working fine for the past few days but when I try to load it up and log in all I get is the text terminal. Before I used to be able to log in using a GUI then select GNOME and everything was fine but now I cant.

Can anyone help a n00b?

Thank you

When the text terminal starts try typing xstart. That should start the GUI. From there use the config tools in MDK to make it boot into GUI in again in future

rightho, typo there: it's definitely "startx".

Anyway, once you're in there's a screen in the mandrake control centre that lets you configure startup behaviour like whether to start straight into a user account and what GUI to use. I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but I haven't got a Mandrake distro installed at the moment.

(btw: for me part of the fun of linux is fiddeling around and stumbling on the sollution. If you can get into the GUI then you're safe anyway, cos now you know how to do it manually. Automating the process is nice but not essential, so have a look around. You can always ask again )

Thanx for the help. I tried the xstart and it didnt work so I played around with it and got startx and that worked although it logged me into kde which i didnt want to go into to. But I found the gui stuff so it automatically logs me into Gnome.

Thankyou
