loading linux
 

i have downloaded the ubuntu 10..4 iso and burned the disk image
also the super grub iso and did the same
i have a new hard drive what do i do next and in order i only want the linux os on it

getting linux to load
 

as far as i can tell there is no way to get linux to load and why is it that its made so difficult so many assumptions like you just have to type in some commands here is an example blah blah ok assuming i know what to type just where exactly do i type it and how do i get to that place to do the typing or is it supposed to be common knowledge so no one mentions it
i have computer with a 500 gig hard drive i only want to put linux on it (ubuntu 10.4 )why is there no list of what to do in the correct order to do it
here is what i did
i downloaded the iso file and converted it then loaded it and tried it out /worked great so i chose to install it to the hard drive /chose the option to erase the drive and load ubuntu after that i am dead in the water restarting will not load this os even though it is there

Insert the OS cd in to the cd dirve, boot the system, change the first boot device as CD-ROM.
then the linux will boot from cd, hit enter, select language, date , location and all. then select custom for creating Partition do the partition according to your need, then next, then select what are the package need to be installed, then next to install the OS.

I would suggest that you read some tutorials on installing Ubuntu. You haven't posted any information on the installation process in your particular case so there is really no way anyone else can know what happened. In the standard Ubuntu installation, there is no need to be typing in any commands.

Usually, if you accept all the defaults on an installation with no other operating system, you should have no problem. It might be the hardware you are using but you haven't posted any information on that. There are numerous tutorials available for installing Ubuntu, many similar to the one in the link above which show images for every step during the install which also has detailed explanations. If you are not seeing what is shown in the tutorial, some information on what you do see might help someone to help you.
