Loading a driver into a live CD Distro.

Long time no post.

Anyway, I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi card in my machine and after poking around in various places on the internets, I have come to the conclusion that this sound card is kind of a no-go with Linux.
By kind of, I mean there is in actual recent driver out there from Creative Labs (Beta - grrrr.)
Here:

However, this doesn't really do me much good if all I want to do...so far is play around with some live CD Distros.

Now to my question(s)
1. Is it possible to download this driver from Creative and somehow load it into mem or whatever with a live CD Distro so that I may sonically rock out? For now I only want to play around with the live CD. I don't want to technically install. Just load the driver into mem so I can get some audio.

2. If not, are there any distros that have the X-fi drivers incorporated into the live CD distro?

If I have not explained myself clearly, it's ok if you yell at me. I'll try to explain myself better.

Thank you for your time.

1. Not without remastering the LiveCD with the new kernel module compiled and installed. That can be done, but may be more than you want to do.

2. Being as it's a beta module I seriously doubt it.

This is the biggest disadvantage to a LiveCD.

Remastering a LiveCD really isn't all that hard if you want to read up on it and give it a go.

Doesn't your mobo have onboard sound? Of course, it won't be the same quality but it's still better than nothing while you are making up your mind.

Thanks for the responses. I had a feeling there wasn't much I could do unless I took the leap. No onboard sound either. I might get another soundcard or wait a little bit to see if any distros will include the x-fi drivers.

Once again thanks.

I really don't think I'd buy another sound card just to use a LiveCD. If you actually decide to install Linux then you can decide whether to replace the card or use the beta driver.
