lm_sensors problem

I am trying to install LM Sensors 2.8.6 on debian 3.0r2 with kernel 2.4.25
I used I2C 2.8.4.

I follow the instructions in
"LM_SENSORS QUICK INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS"
http://www2.lm-sensors.nu/~lm78/cvs/...rs2/QUICKSTART

I reach the end and i have a problem when executing "sensors -s"

Code:
skilla:/# lsmod
Module Size Used by Not tainted
adm1025 4384 0 (unused)
i2c-isa 768 0 (unused)
i2c-proc 6048 0 [adm1025]
i2c-core 14880 0 [adm1025 i2c-isa i2c-proc]
hostap_crypt_wep 2976 2 (autoclean)
hostap_pci 36076 0
hostap 78376 0 [hostap_crypt_wep hostap_pci]

skilla:/# cat /etc/modules.conf | grep -in i2c
120:# I2C module options
121:alias char-major-89 i2c-dev

skilla:/# sensors -s
No sensors found!
I think the record in /etc/modules.conf is wrong.
Any ideas why sensors -s isnt working?

I used lm_sensors 2.8.4 on kernels 2.6.3/4, but found it did not work in gkrellm on kernel 2.6.5. Worked at command line though. Upgraded to version 2.8.6 and sensors work fine in gkrellm. The lm-sensors page, http://secure.netroedge.com/~lm78/kernel26.html recommends using version 2.8.2 on kernels 2.6.0 and earlier.
You might try version 2.8.2 for your kernel if you've exhausted all other possibilities?!?

Question

Instead of downgrading:
-> Rebuild kernel with ISA support
-> I did what "sensors-detect" ordered (correctly this time) :

Code:
To make the sensors modules behave correctly, add these lines to
/etc/modules.conf:

#----cut here----
# I2C module options
alias char-major-89 i2c-dev
#----cut here----

To load everything that is needed, add this to some /etc/rc* file:

#----cut here----
# I2C adapter drivers
modprobe i2c-isa
# I2C chip drivers
modprobe w83781d
# sleep 2 # optional
/usr/local/bin/sensors -s # recommended
#----cut here----
-> Copy i2c-isa & w83781d to
"/lib/modules/2.4.25/kernel/drivers/i2c/"
now can load everything

->
Code:
skilla:~# modprobe w83781d
skilla:~# sensors -s
Segmentation fault
skilla:~# lsmod
Module Size Used by Not tainted
w83781d 20096 1 (initializing)
i2c-isa 768 0 (unused)
i2c-proc 6208 0 [w83781d]
i2c-core 13184 1 [w83781d i2c-isa i2c-proc]
hostap_crypt_wep 2976 2 (autoclean)
hostap_pci 36076 0
hostap 78376 0 [hostap_crypt_wep hostap_pci]
Now i am lost!
