LiveCDs "building partition table" usually fail

When I try to boot Featherlinux on my old laptop, it gets up to the bit where it builds the partition table, then just stops. I've left it for two hours, it does nothing. It also did this with one or two other CDs, but never Knoppix or Damn Small.

Is this a problem with my PC, with the CD I burnt (it was a special 730mb CD), or whats?

Are you saying that Knoppix, and DSL where able to run? Could be the FeatherLinux is a bad burn. did you check the MD5SUM?
