LIVE USB issue ubuntu : on my ACER ASPIRE one netbook 32Bit
hi
I am trying to create a LIVE USB so that I can boot UBUNTU through my LIVE USB and have play around with it and if I like it I would like to deploy it on my netbook.
Here is my story.
I got ACER ASPIRE one net book with Windows 7. 32BIT
1 Installed the Universal USB creator
2 Created the Desktop UBUNTU USB drive by following the options given
3 Booted my system then got this error.
SYSLINUX: No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!
Googled this error and found a solution to rename folders.
Did that.
Rebooted and face this error now.
Counld not find kernel image /isolinux/isolinux.cfg.
Can someome please help me on this. Will be very thankful.
A bit more background information would be helpful. Which version of Ubuntu are your trying to use? And can you post a list of all the folders on the USB after using Universal USB creator? Like Start -> type cmd:
Counld not find kernel image /isolinux/isolinux.cfg.
Is the error above the one you are still getting? Since there is no isolinux directory you will need to find the file which is looking for it. The newly renamed syslinux.cfg or perhaps a txt.cfg file in syslinux directory.
Have you checked the iso file's MD5 yet? I just tried the same thing you did with a flash drive and I had no problems. Check the file's hash first before we starting diving any deeper into this.
WinMD5 is pretty good, I've used it without problems for a while. http://www.winmd5.com/
Once you calculate your hash, find the file you downloaded in this list and compare it to the calculated one. They should be a perfect match. If they are any different, it means the iso file is bad, and you need to re-download it. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuHashes
Hey Guys it worked !!! Thanks so much for your help
I think it was bit of gotcha as I never got any error while writing the iso it to the USB Flash Drive through the live CD software. I have learned one lesson the hardway to always check and compare the MD5sum.
I had this issue as well. I had a very happy Lubuntu boot stick which I had used for emergencies so when it was time for an update I used unetbootin to install the latest version (14.10) and then ...
"no default or ui configuration directive found"
This was from a USB stick / PC combo that used to work. After wasting some time editing files from isolinux to syslinux (or something like that) the solution was a lot simpler, do a clean format using Gparted, before using Unetbootin, to either FAT16 or FAT32, I tried both and both worked.
I acceot this may not work for everyone, but it worked for me :-)
