this means downloading the source files and compiling them and then building them into the files and modules that linux can work with

at first this sems a bit scary
but once you get the idea it's far easier than Windows methods

the various relevant commands are as follows

./configure (sometimes with options)
make
make install
(i've seen variations on these)

download the files
look for a ReadMe file, this should have precise installation instructions in

and if you havent done this type of thing before (you'll need a C compiler present on your system to compile with)

not quite.

what you do here is to compile mplayer to include the LIVE.COM format libraries. when you run ./configure for the MPlayer install, you want to run "./configure --with-livelibdir=/usr/local/lib/live" or wherever you have the live dir located. check the output of configure to see if this was picked up properly. also check configure --help to make sure i got that livelibdir thing right

thanks acid_kewpie

thanks for the info it says this no where even at lives website.

./configure --enable-live --with-livelibdir=/usr/local/lib/live is what live site tells me so that is what i used.

i get a error right at the end of my make

i followed these directions "./genMakefiles linux" copying the live directory to /usr/local/lib i hope this is what im supose to do

here is what i get any ideas

presumably you've simply not actullay compiled the library, run "make" in the live directory.

here are the results with "make"

[joe@dhcp-395-6 live]$ ls
BasicUsageEnvironment config.macosx fix-makefile Makefile.tail
config.aix config.openbsd genMakefiles README
config.alpha config.qnx4 genWindowsMakefiles testProgs
config.cygwin config.solaris groupsock UsageEnvironment
config.freebsd config.sunos liveMedia win32config
config.irix configure Makefile win32config.Borland
config.linux COPYING Makefile.head
[joe@dhcp-395-6 live]$ make
cd BasicUsageEnvironment ; make
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/joe/live/BasicUsageEnvironment'
make[1]: Nothing to be done for `all'.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/joe/live/BasicUsageEnvironment'
cd testProgs ; make
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/joe/live/testProgs'
make[1]: Nothing to be done for `all'.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/joe/live/testProgs'
[joe@dhcp-395-6 live]$

is this the right way to do this
./configure --enable-gui --enable-live --with-livelibdir=/usr/local/lib/live

thanks for all the help
