Please see http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/ so you can learn about modem under linux Google for you modem + linux + error message To find which modem you have, type in a console lspci -v Piece of advice, if you are going to use a 56k modem with linux, maybe use an installed distro rather than a live one, although with knoppix you can save your config In http://www.linux.com/howtos/Modem-HOWTO-18.shtml Quote:
In my experience "modem busy" means no driver loaded, and sometimes quite a bit of work to make it work, especially if you are new to this. But people will help. If you have a spare serial modem go fo it |
knoppix modem/internet?
Hello, you might have to configure the modem for network use by clicking on the KNOPPIX icon (2nd one from the left) and then click on Network/Internet. If you are using a dial-up modem click on the first entry:
"dev/modem connection setup (serial/USB/IRDA/Bluetooth)." From there you have to choose what kind of physical connection you have. As mentioned in the previous post an external serial connection is quite painless if you are going dial-up. I found that you have to do this first before you configure your KPP dialer. Hi, I had no luck using /dev/modem as my choice under kppp configuration. If I remember right I used /dev/ttyS1 or ttyS0 (zero not "oh") to get mine to work. It's been a while.

I am now using Knoppix 4.0 livecd . Through this , in using kppp to connect internet it shows in /dev/ttyS1 or /dev/ttyS2 modem query ati screen appears but with no results. pls h'lp.

This is a catch22. And we do not even know what model of modem you have.
In my experience winmodem are really difficult to setup. I can only suggest you download and burn to floppy / cd scanmmodem from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/ and then read careffuly all the outputs and instructions |
I am using "SmartConnect 56K V.90/V.92 PCI internal modem . " with the help of live cd of Knoppix 4.0 ,can i able to connect internet ?
I've done every thing such as kpppetc but unable to connect it. |
Download and run scanmodem, it will tell you which driver to use...
It will tell you what to try. If this winmodem cannot work at all with linux it will tell you. I assume you know how to untar tar.gz file, if not let us know. The file is small and should fit on a floppy If you really cannot understand the main file created by scanmodem past it here. This is an automated tools with all the things to try. Including using wvdial instead of kppp because error messages are clearer. There should be a readme file with scanmodem I am not being akward, this is the best way to find out all the information in one go rather than doing steps by steps in the dark. It is also better you learn from that reading included with scanmodem. I know it is difficult at first. If you remain stuck people will help I cannot see your modem at http://start.at/modem Can you post (two v not w) for the modem lspci -vv |
