Little question about -o loop option

Hi, I've got a little question about the -o loop option, as the title says.

I had to delete all the contents of my external HD, so I did fdisk -l first of all for discover where my HD was (/dev/sdb1 NTFS) and then I've had to mount that so I typed mount -o loop,rw -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /media/hd0 and then rm -rf /media/hd0/*.

Now I know that -o loop is applied only for seeing files as block device (thanks to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loop_device) but that (useless) option worked the same for me, so my question is: how does mount work with -o loop option? Does the mount command recognize that -o loop is useless when using device files?

Sorry for my "noob-ness" and my bad English.

Yes. AFAIK mount recognizes and safely ignores redundant or unapplicable parameters.
