Listing program size

My HDD is almost full, time to uninstall some useless stuff. How do I list all programs I have installed by size in terminal?

Hi

the command:

ls -l /usr/bin

will list all programs with full information including the size (in bytes) of the program. Be careful what you choose to delete, though, because this file contains all of the executable programs by the normal users.

Hope this helps

Bob

I strongly advise against removing anything from /usr/bin or /bin for that matter.
Try using a package manager to get a list of what you have installed and uninstall the stuff you
haven't used in ages (except for the system programs, of course).

Retrieving the total size of an installed package is not so straight-forward as simply "ls -l"ing in some directory.

@cupoftea: what distro are you using? Have you used a package manager to install your software?

I can answer for debian, sorry for others.. For others you really should not erase manually, as someone said, use your own package manager!!
Code:
dpkg-query -W -f='${Package} ${Installed-Size}\n' | sort -n +1
You should look at these:
->localepurge will free some useless space
->debfoster will tell you have takes room while not really needed/used
->deborphan

have fun
