Linux wtf?


after installing suse on a dell poweredge 1400 I have encountered a problem with the boot up process of suse 9.0. I tried many thing and have reinstalled several times with different modules and still get the same message “Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 8:02” how can I go about fixing this or what steps do I need to take. I am providing as much info as I can in hardware below

52x cdrom –IDE
SCSI Dell Power Edge Expandable RAID Controller 2/DC, running 4 ultra 160 hard drives in stripe mode 0
512 MB of ecc memory running at 133 MHz

If I knew a bit more about SuSE, I might be of more help, but unfortunately, I could only give you a few ideas for possible kernels for a slack install. Even then, however, I can't guarantee that the driver is supported in the kernel, which means that you would have to find it again when going to recompile your kernel to make use of your dual processors, similar to the problem I'm having right now with my LSI controller.
