1. The Fedora 8 installation process detects your hardware and install modules for those, and also installs a bootloader, so when you switch machines on it, it doesn't "know" that you have changed machines unless you "tell" it to.
2. My best suggestion then would be to follow the link below about how to install FC via Live-Cd off a USB Flash drive. This way you won't have to worry about editing things that you aren't comfortable with.
This might seem like a super difficult task, but once you read the instructions it is not that bad. Basically what you are going to do is boot off the Live CD to any machine and then use that environment to create a USB bootable live cd.
