Linux Web Server

WE have a clunky old server at our office for 6 users. We want to go to a more modern, higher powered server or to a web server. Our problem is that we do not have a true 'techie' on board. I would like to explore a Linux based web server. We need to limit how much outside help we must pay for. Am I dreaming?

How old is this clunky server you have now? Are you planning on serving more than 6 people or the amount will stay the same? If you plan on not adding more people, the server probably can handle the load for quite some time, depending on what you have planned for it.

It is not that old as I think we installed it 3 years ago. It is an AMD Athlon XP 2500 running Microsoft 2000. WE frequently have 5-6 users online and will probably not be more than 10 for quite some time. Our problem is many days everything seems to run slowly and on some days we get booted off of the internet frequently. We have investigated possible problems with our DSL provider Sprint and have changed routers twice. We can find no problem with Sprint. We have their highest speed service available.

I see no reason to upgrade this machine. It could probably handle much more, just remove Windows and you'll be fine..

Also, I've reported to have this thread moved, it has nothing to do in regards to asking questions or giving suggestions about this site.

Thanks again and I understand removing this thread. Is it appropriate to ask questions about the Linux web server.

He didn't say "remove" he said "move", ie. to a more appropriate forum on this site. This is a great place to ask your questions.

Most linux distributions will install with a working apache server already setup and running.

Thanks. That's why they call us 'Newbies'. Could you recommend who would be a good company or source to call to set this up? I am sure there are myriad places to go and I don't know where to start.
