Linux useless after mandrake update
 

ok as per my other posts i have enough problems trying to get mandrake to run so my first instinct is to run the update.
ok so i did,, picked the securty bug and other fixes and downloaded them.

ok its downloaded and it says its installed,, so whats the first thing i see,, i see a naked start menu almost nothing is there now,, and everything i click on now asks me what to open it with,, even the cdrom,,
ok no biggy i need to reboot.

so i reboot and guess what same thing.. yup same crazy thing pinux is now pretty much useless unless i want to run it from the terminal

so i reload mandrake and dumb ass me does it again and same thing,,, i didnt choose all the updates this time just security and bug fixes, and still after the install i have destroyed linux,,

i mean come on whats the deal has anyone else seen this ? or know what in the world is going on ?

and to top it off my 9700 is acting like its running in total software mode,, there is no hardware accel. even game menu's are running like 1 fps.

use the terminal to see if the files that arnt there even exit, then get a new copy of mandrake, or switch dirstros

do what ? where ? how ?

im the new kid on the block and linux is totally odd to me,
i just installed Mandrake 10 cooker got it from one of themandrake ftp's the iso's were dated Dec 31 2003 so i assume its the newest.
now after installing this i cant get my network up. i got to a web page once but i cant do anything else.

its stupid i can go to my router config but not the internet. this linux stuff is really pissing me off,, and in a bad way one time it works next it dont next it does next it dont.

ive tried dhcp ive tried static which works fine with XP and on my win98 machine.

get mandrake 9.2, not 10. 10 is still in development. it's not even a beta release so it's no surprise if it doesn't work properly - it's for those who want to help mandrake find out the bugs and make improvements.

lol believe me this one so far is working better than 9.2 this was on a regular mandrake mirror under latest releases.. so what would someone think "latest release" ok ill grab it.

anyways wether its 9.2 or Mandrake Cooker (10) nothing is running right,, graphics are running in total software mode, networking dont work it dont mean shit if i have it as static or dhcp its not working,, it might work for a few min but thats all,,
over all i dont know how anyone can run this thing ,, honestly,, not a bashing just honesty,, i like it i like the gnome and kde environments but jesus gimmie a break already tcp ip networking has been the same for what ? 20 yrs ? and the fucking thing wont even network. ?? im telling it what to do but will it ? nope.

i can go to my router set up but not the internet ?? gimmie a break. and i dont even have the firewall running.
ive removed it ive redone it ive licked its backside ggrrr.
same with video i even installed new drivers and ran the config thing thru the terminal. still nothing.
i tried running the tron game that comes with linux and jesus 5 fps it said on screen i dont get it.
cant these programmers just create a plain and simple interface


god i am back to bitching and i was kind of excited to start trying linux again,, now i remember why i quit last time. ggrrr.
