Unhappy Linux survival: Is someone actually going to kill Linux?

I just read an article from PCMag talking about the lawsuit between SCO and IBM over IBM allegedly taking AIX (don't exactly know what that means) code I guess, and putting in in Linux programs. The articles author seems to think that if SCO wins that Linux will go down the tubes. I am technically not a Linux newbie yet, as I have not purchased nor installed Linux on any of my systems, but am seriously considering it after all the problems I have had with Windows, especially trying to program in C++. But if Linux is under threat of being eliminated I would rather not take the time to try to learn another OS. Any one heard about this, or have any insight to Linux's survivability?
