Linux SoundCardDrivers f. High End Stereo or 7.1 with RCA Cinch or SPDI/F Outputs

Hi Linux(-Ubuntu) users,

I would like to know if there exists a Linux sound card driver for the ASUS Xonar Essence STX II 7.1 soundcard. I have informed me about soundcards with Hifi-Quality in Stereo and Dolby Surround configurations. The mentioned ASUS soundcard seems to be the best Hifi 7.1 soundcard on the market and I have yet contacted ASUS Support and the technician told me, thet they don't provide any Linux drivers for this soundcard. Perhaps there is one. An alternative could be the ESI Juli@, ESI Audiotechnik GmbH is a german manufacturer, relatively unknown and specialist for soundcards for professional recording, mixing,..... ESI provides for this soundcard a Linux Driver called ALSA. Please tell me what ALSA means and if I can use this Juli@ soundcard with Linux ALSA specification for my Ubuntu 14.04.3 Desktop LTS 64 Bit. If there are other High End Stereo or 7.1-soundcards with a RCA-Cinch Output and/or SPDI/F digital output with Linux drivers, please suggest my a/some brands with models. I want to connect the soundcard with active monitors. XLR outputs are not necessary as beeing a Hifi-Fan.

Thanks a lot for your answers

ASUS Xonar devices are handled by the virtuoso kernel driver, though without knowing the PCI-ID (get that with the lspci command) of the card I can't say if this specific model is supported.
AFAIK, the ESI Juli@ should be supported by any modern Linux distro.

Hi TobiSGD,

thanks a lot for your answer. With your abundant experience and knowledges you have answered my specific question 100%.

Thanks a lot and wish you nice Chrismas days and a good 2016 year. I changed from Michaelsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit to Linux Ubuntu only 6 weeks ago and I'm absolutely

happy with this outstanding decision. There are a lot forums in the Net and I have still to learn to use the right keywords....
