I have asked about the problem that my Mandrake Linux 10 being only capable of playing sound for one application at a time. People say it has something to do with sound server. I installed esd but nothing changed so I searched google again and read the Linux Sound HOWTO. According to the doc it says I should make programs make request for sound through the sound server instead of through the device directly. So my question is how do I make programs request through the sound server (such as esd) so that multiple programs can use sound at the same time. (so I can play mp3 and gaim and flash player will still play sound)

I suppose you'll need to configure output to the sound serer. In xmms for example you can choose the output plug-in. THat's where you should route sound to the server (e.g. alsa)

yeah, every application has it's own way of specifying the sound method to use...

personally i'd love to know how to make the flash player on my firefox use esound...

okay, it works now!!!

I have managed to play Mp3 in two different terminals with mpg123. And XMMS still works when mpg123 is playing mp3. But flashplayer, gaim and everything else still doesnt work.
