Wink Linux slax problem

I am a new linux user. I have slax installed on my hard drive. Sometimes my screen has an X in the center and a small red symbol and the screen flashes. I have to restart my computer after this happens. Does anyone know why this happens? How can I fix this problem? I don't want to go back to using Microsoft windows!

Thanks,
Tennisbum

Sounds like it's starting the X server but no desktop or window manager. What type of symbol is it displaying?

slax problem

The symbol I see on the screen is a white X and a small red symbol of some kind. I do not know what this symbol is really. Then the computer locks up. I have to power down and then restart to be able to use the computer again.

Thanks,

Just to confirm that it's X right-click on screen to see what options are.

slax problem

When I get the X on the screen I can't do anything. I have NO option but to shut the computer down and reboot. The next time it happens I will see if I have any options or can do anything else to maybe correct the problem. I appreciate the help. I am a new linux user. I like to trry different operating systems. I just do basic computing like email, surfing to look up information, some online banking. With that said what would be a simple linux os for me to use? I have tried Ubuntu but it ran too slow on my desktop pc.

Thanks,
Tennisbum

Angry slax problem

I just had to shut down again and reboot. The X in the middle of my screen can be moved around by moving my mouse. Then my screen flashes over and over until I reboot. I have no options if I right click on the screen. I see a small red symbol of some kind on my screen as well when this happens. I have no idea what is going on here.

Thanks,
Tennisbum

Thumbs up slax problem

Thanks for your help.Ctrl+Alt+F1 got me to the terminal and I was able to learn some things for there and then I rebooted. FYI: The small red symbol on my screen is the symbol for a program starting up.

Thanks,
Tennisbum
