Unhappy Linux Samba - XP User Profiles

Hi - we are in the process of migrating from our Novell server on to SuSE Linux.

At present we have approximately 2500 Windows XP machines that log on to Novell but use a standard "staff" local XP profile.

When we move to Linux we are going to be running Samba and emulating an NT domain. We have to go through the process of copying the local profile for our uses and are looking into enabling roaming profiles also.

The problem we have is some of our users store large amounts of data on their desktop or in My Documents etc (i.e. in excess of 1gb).

In Windows Active Directory we can use group policy to specify only to copy the settings, registry etc on the profile and not all of this data. Does anybody know if you can make this specification on Samba and if so can you point me in the right direction for the information.

Thanks

Mark

Ask, Google, Answer! Looks like you can push this as a login script. I always find it amazing that people put so much on their desktop. Whenever I do that it slows my machine down, even if I'm not using roaming profiles. Of course, roaming profiles are 'one' way to get your data backed up once in a while
