Linux rpm pre-installation issue for oracle 10g

Hello all,

I am installing oracle10g (32 bit) on EL 32 bit OS. While installation it shows package dependencies that need to be installed before it can proceed to the installation. It needs the gcc-3.2, but while trying to install it shows the following error:

[root@localhost ~]# yum install gcc-3.2.rpm
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
No Repositories Available to Set Up
Reading repository metadata in from local files
Parsing package install arguments
No Match for argument: gcc-3.2.rpm
Nothing to do
[root@localhost ~]#

Installation will not proceed until this rpm issue is resolved. How to proceed with this issue?

Seems you do not have proper repository configuration. Check for the configuration in /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory and /etc/yum.conf file.

Also, you don't yum install an rpm, you just yum install the pkg name eg 'yum install gcc'

Hi Chrism01,

That was one of the stupid ways I was trying to issue the command when nothing was working. But previously I did the same as you mentioned. But that gives the same result as well.

I was just pointing that out as well.
As mentioned by others, your repos are not setup properly; you need to fix that first.
