Linux RedHat 9.0 PDF to Word converter

As I am a Linux novice, I am trying to find out if anyone knows of any free Linux PDF to Word file converters. I have tried the ones available for Windows (on a Windows PC naturally), and whilst for the most part all is OK, there is a problem with a number of images that are losr during the conversion process. These images tend to occupy the full width of the page. Smaller images in the PDF file, that are probably 1/5 the width of the page, have come across fine.

I am looking at Linux to see if there are any tools that may help me.

PS. I am an absolute novice, so if you could probably detailed steps on installing any application, that would be much appreciated. :-)

Do you have OpenOffice.org installed? I haven't tried it, but since OOo can open and save pdf files, you may be able to open the doc in Writer and then save it as a .doc.

Thanks for your reply Xavier; I do have OO installed, and I tried to open the PDF document, but all I got was a lot of "gibberish"; that is why I thought if I could first convert the PDF file to a word document, then I may have some more luck with the import of these images.
