Linux Red Hat....Is it Free??

Currrently I'm using Windows Me on my pc. I came to know that Linux is an operating system that you can download from the internet and the leading distribution is Linux Red Hat. Therefore I would just like to know if anyone can tell me if this operating system is really FREE because it is not popular in my country. If it is true......What is best download site?

Its free, Linux itself is free, when you pay for it at retail stores, your paying for the packaging, cd, any additional apps and so on....
If you have a fast connection, the easiest way to get Linux is to download a iso image and then burn it to cd. you can try sites like www.linuxiso.org , and maybe www.freelinuxcd.org which mail out free cd's.
