Linux Red Hat installation on virtual machine

I'm doing the Linux 9.0 installation and don't know where to get the
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server directory. I downloaded
the VMware open-source and am as dumb as they come with this.
I'm trying to learn though. What file am I looking for? Please help!

OK, so first step is to stop, and don't install Redhat 9.0

Redhat 9.0 is TEN YEARS OLD

High numbers do NOT mean newer versions!

The two modern equivalents would be Fedora 18 for home desktop / dev use and RHEL 6 (or CentOS 6) for servers. However as an apparent novice, you might prefer Mint 14.

VMware is NOT software. VMware is a company. Do you mean VMware Player? VMware Server? VMware Workstation? VMware ESX?

Welcome to the forums! The best people on the planet to assist with your new Red Hat product are the good people at Red Hat:

https://access.redhat.com/home

Since you are paying the required subscription for this commercial software, you are entitled to support from Red Hat Knowledge Base and Support. Use it!

(Acidkewpie, I believe the OP is talking about Red Hat Directory Server 9.0 (the current version) but I agree it is a confusingly worded question.)

Thanks so much. Yes, I meant to say VM Workstation. I used the Distro Chooser and after answering the questions. selected Linux Mint (downloading now). I'm doing the coursework for a certification and I need to familiarize myself with VMware apps and Linux. I will run Linux on the VM Workstation to get used to it. My apologies for being the "dummy for the day". If you have any other advice for a novice for the installation of Linux Mint, I'll be hanging on your every word. Thanks again.

Mint is a great choice, have fun and write back if you have any questions.

I thought I'd done the installation correctly but, after selecting the image and the server directory and clicking "finish", I get a Mint screen with a timer referring to an upcoming reboot, then a black screen saying "loading" but nothing happens afterward. I've tried sending a 'ctrl-alt-delete to reboot but the same thing happens again and again. Help!
