Smile Linux on laptop (Dell Vostro)

Hello, I am sick of windows and have just got myself a Dell Vostro and would like to turn it into a Linux only machine. Is it possible to delete Windows from the laptop and run a linux distro on it.
I have the legit copy of windows so can always reinstall if I cant get on with Linux, but I really want to get to grips with it this time.
Thanks
Villain

I'm not familiar with the hardware on this model, but you may not have too much difficulty.

You have to be comfortable with partitioning. However, speaking for Debian and Fedora, most installers now will take care of this for you. You just select something like "Use the entire hard drive", and confirm any prompts warning you that you will lose any data on deleted/overridden partitions.

Pick yourself up a live distribution first. There are plenty to be had. This will allow you to test your hardware before committing to erasing your harddrive. This way you don't wipe it and then find there are too many issues for you to deal with.

Some live distros:

Debian http://www.debian.org/, Live images at http://live.debian.net/
Fedora http://www.fedorproject.org/
Mint http://www.linuxmint.com/

Check out distrowatch.com for others. Good luck.
