Welcome to LQ.
I've had good luck with Linux on Dells. The only problem you might run into is the wireless card--some of them, particularly Broadcom and Realtek--can take a few extra steps to get working. Dell seems to like Broadcom. |
Thank you Mr. Frankbell. I don't know if I did the right thing but managed to install Linux Mint Cinnamon on the GX150. After installation, I stumbled upon an update and thought to myself, what the heck, and went ahead. The machine went through a huge procedure taking almost an hour or more and I finally ended up with a desktop with just two icons: a computer icon and a home icon. I searched the internet for what a cinnamon desktop should look like; it was much busier but seemed to have all the things that one expects on a desktop. The only way I could launch firefox was to press the F1 key. I was about to give up and reimage using "mate" when I saw your post welcoming me. Appreciate your response and will appreciate any tips on how I can get a desktop to show in my current situation.
