linux on a p133 that will only boot S-T-D

I have an old old p133 machine that I struggled to get linux on forever. Eventually I gave up. Yesterday for some reason I threw in a Knoppix S-T-D disc and it worked. I'd tried knoppix and ubuntu live cds before but could never get it to boot. While I can use it through STD, I want to install some kind of linux on the hard disk.
Any suggestions on how I would go about finding version that will work? I know STD is based on knoppix but I dont know which version. And I know knoppix is based on debian so maybe I want an old version of debian? Other than the modules in STD, what else should I be looking for to try and match?

Guess what?? Google using "linux p133" returns a bunch of hits--including several things that look like success stories.

When you say you have not been able to install Linux on thix box, what were the issues?

Maybe an old BIOS that's incapable of handling anything larger than floppy-sized El-torito?

Many distros tend to come compiled for i686 class CPU's - and these are not going to work on Pentiums. So look for i586 or x86 compatibility.
