Unhappy linux on a compaq presario 2100


i have a compaq presario 2100 series the actual model is 2188CL i have been trying to install linux on it and it goes almost all the way thru the install and hangs up, am i using the right version for the machine, if anyone knows how to get it to install please inform me. i am trying to get the ubuntu 12.04 onto it

Hi:

At what point does the installation process hang at?

If you have another operating system on your Compaq it could be hanging because the other OS partition needs
to be shrunk. Please clarify-
