Linux of compaq presario v2000

I was wondering if there a flavor of linux that will run the broadcom internal wireless network card right out of the box. The laptop that I have is a Compaq Presario V2000 I have 1024MB of ram and an AMD sempron 3100+.

Thanks

You need to use ndiswrapper to get the wireless to work, so not quite "out of the box", but not too far removed from it either.

I am also making the assumption that by V2000 you can also mean the model V2575CA. The page I am about to link to lists both model numbers, but his specs sound the same as what you mentioned.

He used Fedora Core 4 although 5 was out. Now 6 is out. I would not install FC4, but rather 6. All the same solutions will work, just get the FC6 version of the software.

Also, check out http://google.com/linux to check for more reports of people installing linux to your machine.

First step in being a linuxer is becomming very familiar with your search engine!

Peace,
JimBass

If anyone is wondernig there is a flavor of linux that will work with the compag presario v2000 series laptop. Freespire will detect the broadcom wireless network card and will run no problem. I tried using ndiswrapper on ubuntu but it would not work, wich is to back because I like Ubuntu.
