Legally it doesn't look like you can, and please don't think we will show you how to get it illegally, if it's possible. It is 16 years old, the 2nd edition he wrote, there are many newer books you'd be safer to use to get started with.

The book (2nd edition 2000) is available on line from the oreilly.com web site, under a GPL licence. Look at the copyright information page.
So, it seems that it is legal to read it online, copy it and even print it, under that licence. There is a link "Online book" in the page.
There are various books, that O'Rilley lists under the Open books category. They are usually out of print or older editions, or books that their authors felt strongly that it should be published under a particular open copyright.

The latest (3rd) edition (2005) isn't free, however.

Isn't the online stuff just a sample? The link at the bottom of the page is for "sample chapters"

masterclassic 05-03-2011 05:33 AM

I see there is a link "Back to: Sample Chapter Index" in each chapter.
I don't know the original book. The online chapter list is the same as the original book's list, in the main product page.
In fact, what is missing from the online pages, is the Index after the appendix D. ;) The link goes to a '404 Not Found' page.

Furthermore,

Please consider the latest edition.
I don't find online links for newer books.

That's right:
...
By Tony Bautts, Terry Dawson, Gregor N. Purdy

instead of Olaf Kirch, Terry Dawson for the 2nd ed.
