Linux N00b having GAIM issues here!

OK, so I used to have windows ( right now it's having technical issues with the authentication key so it's unusable ). I used to have ICQ on it, and now I discovered the GAIM software for linux, - it supports it!
Now I have another issue: Our DSL keeps on having disconnects every 2- 5 minutes *probably* due to environmenal issues ( and they've been going on quite a while now ), so it keeps on disconnecting from GAIM.
I checked the plugin that brings you in after disconnects automaticly, problem is: it still seems like people, all of a sudden don't reply anymore for quite a while. It just doesn't reconnect me properly, and GAIM doesn't tell you WHEN I get disconnected!( I tried disconnecting and reconnecting myself from the server on purpose every few minutes, then repasting everything that I wrote since the last reply. And I don't think this is a good solution alone out of the fact that after a while I get a message that I disconnected and reconnected to often, and therefore now can't reconnect for 10 minutes ).

This issue is driving me crazy...and I ask for one thing:
anyone know how to get around this issue?

-thank you

Edit: sorry for the double thread! I was having a disconnect again...:/

I can't answer your question, other than the fact whoever you're talking to may be getting annoyed with the constant logging on/off, thus why they don't respond.

Regardless.

On Average, DSL is around 30-35 a month, it sounds like you're paying for crappy service. Contact you're provider to fix the problem. Expecting GAIM, or any connected s/w, to work around a crappy connection, is silly.

Well, it's not the other person being annoyed thqat they don't answer, becasue when I ran ICQ they answered too...

We had people from Telekom come in a couple of times and they said it's environmental, nothing's wrong. Nice. :/

It's just that by the other chat clients I used you can see when you're not connected, or you get a "not sent" message if they didn't receive. So I was trying to find out when I'm disconnected...

anyways,
thanks! ^^;
( and thanks to the ones that replied to the first thread )
