OK. Downloaded the file in rpm. I installed Alien in order to convert to deb, but unfortunately I can't get the terminal to open the iscan file:
"melvyn-Dimension-C521 Desktop # sudo alien iscan-2.29.1-5.usb0.1.ltdl3.i386.rpm File "iscan-2.29.1-5.usb0.1.ltdl3.i386.rpm" not found." The iscan rpm file is on the desktop, by the way. |
Well, this is a distributionspecific problem, I can't help with Ubuntu.
Here is explained how it should work: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubunt...-ubuntu-linux/ if it doesn't post in the Ubuntu forum. Markus |
Can you explain why you did not download the deb file???

Yes. I downloaded the deb file but the system refused to install it. Please see attached screenshot. Message reads "Error: The dependency cannot be satisfied: iscan-data.
|
You should try to install the programs from Ubuntu's or Debian's Repository, the packagemanager will resolve the dependencies automatically and install everything necessary.

I used GDebi package installer that came out of the official repositories. Iscan doesn't appear in the repositories. In any case, I think that you have wasted enough time on this, so don't bother. I can use the scanner in VirtualBox, which is a pain of course, having to start up VB when you need the scanner. Besides, it means that one continues to be Windows dependant. But at least it works. Too bad I didn't write down how I solved the problem when I was using Ubuntu 12.10.
Many thanks Markus! |
Well, I think you lack some experience with Linux ;) maybe the scanner is a motivation to learn a little more.
You should take a look into the /etc/sane.d/ directory and find out if there's something you can configure. Just try it out, and don't give up. Good luck. Markus |

Just to let you know, it is now working! I uninstalled everything I could see related to the scanner, then installed a couple of drivers from AVASYS instead of Epson. Then I couldn't access the scanner (although it was recognised) (see attached screenshot) but searched and did "sudo chmod 0666 /dev/bus/usb/001/009". Miraculously, Sane appeared with, apparently, all its functionalities.
In any case, thanks for your help Markus. |
Well, then it is a permission problem. But I wanted to exclude this possibility when checking which groups your user belongs to.
You should not change the permissions for the /dev/ file, but check if there is a udev-rule on your system which you can change. Look in /etc/udev/rules.d/ and /lib/udev/rules.d/ Markus |

New Epson ET-3750 will not scan
Hi,
I am new and wet behind the ears on this forum as well as the Linux operating system. This thread has not been replied to in over 6 months. I did not see a final solution to the scanner problem so my first question is: have I somehow missed the solution or has the solution not been found? I have downloaded the scanner software from the ebz site and extracted the files but alas, my ignorance does not allow me to progress. I have managed to get the contrivance to print and copy via a USB connect. The message I get on the device screen is: Install the Epson Event manager (which is at least downloaded). So the second question is: Has anyone else been down this bunny trial and if so which path do I take? Qxunil |
