Cross check the correct version using uname -a

apt-get install kernel* will get you list of latest kernel your distribution supports!

Hi,
I use uname -a and my kernel version is Linux oem-desktop 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:10:02 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux.

Using "apt-get install kernel" under root access give me the below error.

oem-desktop ~ # apt-get install kernel
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package kernel
oem-desktop ~ # sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-2.6.32-020632_2.6.32-020632_all.deb
dpkg: error processing linux-headers-2.6.32-020632_2.6.32-020632_all.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:
linux-headers-2.6.32-020632_2.6.32-020632_all.deb

I have downloaded all the 3 files and there are now on my Mint Desktop. Can I have a step by step process as I am new to Linux.

Thanks
