Linux-MINT 17 Qiana. How many ex-Windows 8.1 Apps can I get in Linux?

I have (finally) removed Windows 8.1 from PC(s) and loaded Linux-Mint 17 MATE Qiana. Brilliant so far. However, there were a couple of Apps on the windows o/s that I did actually use, and I would like to know if a similar version exists for Linux.. Where can I find such a list that makes the direct comparison? The Linux names are still confusing to me...

apart from a few well-known multi-platform software packages (like OpenOffice, or Videolan, or various browsers) I don't think there's a direct correlation. Many windows programs do have a similar counterpart in Linux (though not always an exact match). But if you list a few of those that you're missing, maybe someone who's fluent in both worlds can step in.

Are you going to tell us what those apps are? Or do you prefer that we guess?
Here is one link: http://www.linuxlinks.com/article/20...uivalents.html
If you don't find what you want there it might help to be a bit more forthcoming about what you're looking for.
