Welcome to LQ!

Read LQ FAQ's and Rules.

Is it a secondary drive?

Just give details of your disks(how many, space, partitions).

How you partitioned them in Windows and with what tool?

Did you tried installing Linux Mint. What problems you are having?

Screen cast tutorials http://www.youtube.com/user/USBTux?feature=watch

Although specifically recorded using mint these work on any Ubuntu based distro.

Following this screencast to install to any harddrive, internal or external or even a flash drive, it just gives specifics for external. Obviously just change the locations as required, special notice should be made to "Device for boot loader installation:" We want to ensure the boot loader is written to the correct disk.

Let's see if I understand...

You must have installed this as a second internal drive as you're running Windows to partition it. You've partitioned it with a 20Gb and a 300Gb partition.

Am I OK so far?

You have tried to install Mint on the 20Gb partition? If so, did you succeed?

You can't see the 300Gb partition, is this in Mint, Windows or both? What disk applications are you using to check? GParted?

Did you format it and if so, what file system? If it isn't formatted, it won't mount.

Play Bonny!
