Linux Live CD install to HD

Hey All,

I just had a quick question. I have been playing around with many of the Linux Live CDs as of late. I noticed that not all of them have an option to install the OS to the HD and run it from there. I was wondering if there was a way to install a Linux Live CD to a HD if there is no option built-in.

The one in particular that I have been looking at is called Caster - the ultimate streaming livecd. I downloaded the ISO and burned it, but haven't popped it in yet. I just want to know if I do like it, and it doesn't offer a Install to HD option, that I could still do it some other way. I just think I would prefer to run it off the HD in the end if I like it.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

P.S. - I would have posted a link, but I guess until I have made 5 posts I am prohibited from doing so. I didn't want to make a bunch of BS posts on other people's threads just to get my first 5. So if you want a link to the Caster website just email me or PM me.

You could post the link as text - as in: w w w.website.com - that way the link is posted and you don't get inundated with email.

If LiveCD supports HD install it's usually reflected in README on CD itself.
I know that Knoppix and gNOX have that option.

Seems like a good idea - never used it and it's not on Distrowatch. I'd suggest using the contact form on his site.

Hey XavierP,

Just left the author a message, and will hopefully hear something back soon. I will be sure to post any communication I receive. If anyone else has any other thoughts and ideas please pass them on. Thanks again!!!

No reply yet from the author, but here is what i have found on my own.

I popped the CD in, and I am impressed. I love the simple interface and how everything is organized in the menus. I haven't actually tried the streaming media part yet, but I will try to soon.

I don't see an option to install to the Hard Drive, so hopefully the author will have some info for me.

Overall I like what I see so far and would really like to explore installing Caster as an OS on the hard drive instead of just a LiveCD. If anyone else has any ideas or suggestions please pass them along. Thanks again!
