linux installation stuck!

i tried to install linux for a friend of mine ,i had blank harddisk, i wana install linux,i got one (PCQUEST linux),distribut by PC-QUEST magazine.
whenever i boot from cd rom, i choose automatic partition many times.(i tried disk draud and expert also)
at the end it gives warning message that , cannot write boot record, please insert floopy for boot disket.
as i dont want to boot from floppy, i will skip,so it will not boot.
what to do,just advise me.i want to boot directly, not through floppy,
i am selecting LILO option also, and some option saying write on first MBR,
Help !!!!,thanks in advance

If I read this correctly, the installation is proceeding normally until the installation of the bootloader. First, I would allow it to finish---put the bootloader on the floppy if necessary---and see if you get a working system.

Once it is working, then see if you can install the bootloader to the mbr.

A quick Google search shows that PCQuest is based on Fedora Core 3. It is therefore pretty outdated. You may want to consider getting Fedora Core 6 instead (it is a free download).

Also, use GRUB instead of LILO if possible. There are more people out there with GRUB experience.

Hi, your problem might be that in your BIOS setup the Virus Protection option is enabled. When this option is enabled the master boot record cannot be written. Disable it and try again.
