Unhappy linux install nfs not running

Hi All,

I'm trying to install Linux 6.1 over nfs (no cd drive) and get the following message

RPC: Program on registered

when checking on nfs on the server i see that nfs and mountd are not displayed.

program vers proto port
100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper
100000 2 udp 111 portmapper
100021 1 udp 1024 nlockmgr
100021 3 udp 1024 nlockmgr
100021 1 tcp 1053 nlockmgr
100021 3 tcp 1053 nlockmgr
100024 1 udp 988 status
100024 1 tcp 990 status

I have setup /etc/exports, /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny
When i look in /etc/rc.d/init.d i can not find nfs to start.
when doing a find i get the following .

/var/lib/nfs
/usr/lib/perl5/5.00503/i386-linux/nfs
/usr/include/nfs
/usr/i386-glibc20-linux/include/nfs

Oh I just love posts like this.. really.. I do..

Linux 6.1? And what the heck is that supposed to mean?

Linux isnt windows. It has a Distribution Name, and a Number version.

6.1 could mean any of 50 kinds of linux.. which are you using?

Well it just looks like you don't have the nfs server running. the rpms for it will be on the distro cd's ready and waiting. once installed, start it with "/etc/initc.d/nfs start" or a suitable equivalent

i'd very very very strongly advise you to install a newer system though. 6.1 is what... 4 years old now i think... that's really knocking on some, you're missing out on so much.

It might not have been a technically accurate post, but that's no excuse to insult other forum members. Please abide by the rules of the site. The name of the distro in question is clearly not the main issue, and there is certainly sufficient information for a helpful solution.
