LINUX Install Help
 

I am trying to install RH AS3.0 on a Dell 4600 which already has XP.
Machine has 2 hard drives, trying to install LINUX on the 2nd HD which is basically empty.
I changed the setup to read from CDROM at startup so that CDROM reads the LINUX install cd. Startup bypasses CDROM and starts normally.
My question how else can I install LINUX?

Boot into your BIOS's setup and look for something along the lines of "boot order." Change the boot order so that your BIOS will read from the CD before the hard disk.

Some BIOS's, like the one in my laptop, give the option of a one-time boot menu. If yours does, you're set. Pick that option and select "boot from CD."

Thanks for your reply. I changed the bootorder in BIOS to boot from IDE-CDROM but it still bypasses and boots from hard drive.
Did lot of searching on google but not much help for this issue.
Any more hints?

there is some mistake on your part.
if the setting is for "cd rom" to boot first then how can it allow hard disk to boot first ?
either :
1. you haven't made the proper settings of boot order
2. your distros cd is corrupted one.
3. you haven't made your cd as bootable.

so check again for the boot order settings.
if you find it right there, then try out with some other cd
just for testing you can try to boot your system with any o/s bootable cd, be it windows.

If you burned your install CD, try reburning it at a slower speed (about 4x).
