Linux from Scratch, absolute newb to Linux.

Okay I am trying to learn how to do linux from scratch. I am stuck on chapter 1 and 2. The problem I am having is trying to actually partition and mount the harddrive. The thing is am I just supposed to use the livecd to partition and/or download the packages. Right now I am running ctkarch linux on my computer, but have an extra unpartitioned section that I would use for the LFS.

If you are an absolute newbie it would be better to install 1 of the easier distros such as ubuntu, linuxmint, etc. & get to know linux first then go ahead with LFS Gentoo or any of the harder distros.

Linux From Scratch is for people that know their way around Linux already and want to have a deeper understanding of the inner workings. You have at least to fulfill the prerequisites to learn more than just copy&paste from LFS.

Start at the LFS site.

"The LiveCD cannot be used to build LFS 7.0 or later."

What are you trying to do with a live cd?

I think what pixellany means is the OP registered in 2007, but has just now made his first post .. very odd.
Also the fact a complete newbie is apparently going right in at the deep end distro-wise..

You can browse (read) this site without registering; only need to register to post...
