Linux from scratch

Every tutorial I find assume I am compiling and booting from the same system that has already Linux. Can any one explain or give me a link to where can I find step by step building from scratch into a new machine with no system at all?
Thanks,

Hi,

The build book will be the same (LFS 6.7 stable).

Instead of using a host system that is already installed you can (should...) use the LFS liveCD. I say should, because none of the other distro's are really suitable (out-of-the-box) to build LFS (they need to be made suitable).

Hope this helps.

A number of years back, I successfully made a Linux From Scratch system using a Knoppix live CD with minimal-to-no changes. Unless things have changed, that should be an option as well.

The full-blown desktop environment in Knoppix might be more familiar than the stripped-down environment on the LFS LiveCD. You can get the job done with either, but knowing that you've got a full suite of apps at your fingertips might be more reassuring.
