Linux from scratch
Hey all,
I was just wondering if there is a good distro that i should use to install a LFS distro on. DOCS say you cannot use the live cd anymore. I'm just trying to find a distro that would give me the least amount of headaches and let me follow the docs. Thinking about using CentOS Thanks guys, |
The last time I built a LFS system I just used the Fedora (15 or 16 I think) live disk I had sitting on my desk. You should be able to use any distro as long as you have up to date build tools available and installed. CentOS shouldn't be a problem. Good luck LFS is a great way to learn what is really "under the hood" of a Linux system!

Hi:;)
This page might serve as a good reference to you- http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/faq/#what-is-lfs Main Page http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/ The other thing to think about is do you want a disto that pulls in the dependencies automatically for you like Debian (APT) and Fedora (RPM) Or do you want a distro that you will have to resolve dependencies manually like Slackware. Just a thought- Good luck and Happy Building! |
You can always build in Virtualbox using debian, fedora, or anyother system until comfortable building & on physical hdd.
