Hi, i recomend this documentation,
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBook

It talks about Ubuntu Linux, but these steps can pretty much be adapted to any distribution

About dot com has a good reference for starters.

http://linux.about.com/

It doesn't seem to specifically address getting Linux on a Macbook, but it's a good overall intro to using Linux. It's written with new users in mind, but it's not dumbed down.

For a manual, I recommend Garrels's Intro to Linux.

It's also available in *.pdf. I have a copy on my bookshelf.
