Linux Elementary os

I am a new linux user. I just installed linux elementary os on my dell laptop. The web browser and email clients crash expectantly a lot. Is there a fix for this problem? I really like linux elementary os. What other linux versions would be good for a newbie? I am a basic computer user. I just need a simple linux os. Windows 7 os just updates way to much in my opinion. I have to use wifi. I can not get the updates for windows 7 using my wifi connection. Thanks for any help. johnny 306

There was some good suggestions on your other post. Look Here. A lot of those you can burn to disk and run LIVE without installing to see which one suits you the best.

Hi...

First, thank you for re-posting your question here.

Possibly. What browser and email client are you using? If you would, please start both programs from a terminal and post the entirety of any error messages you receive.

Although I've never used it, from what I understand, Linux Mint would be a good distribution to try as a beginner. However, I can't guarantee you won't experience bugs or other issues with this or another distribution.

Although, we don't typically offer support for Windows here, I'm curious why this is. Are you able to get email and browse the web with your wireless connection?

Regards...

You're welcome but didn't you want to fix the problems you mentioned?

problems I mentioned with linux elementary os

The problems I had with Linux elementary os were that the web browser in elementary would crash often and also the email program. I have ordered a new cd for Linux elementary os. I will install firefox for my web browser and use thunderbird for my email program. I like the Linux elementary os because it is simple and basic. I am a basic computer user. I just do the basic task daily on my laptop. I do not need a loaded Linux os for my needs. Thanks to all that have helped me with with suggestions. FYI: The crashing of the web browser and email program seem to be a common problem in Linux elementary os. I hope this issue gets fixed in the future. Thanks, johnny306

I have been using elementary OS for quite some time, and it has never caused any problems. But admittedly I changed the Midori browser to Firefox, not because it crashed but because of its limited functionality. The Geary email program works very well.

Thanks for the info. I will reinstall linux elementary os and see if the built in web browser and email programs continue to crash. I like to use what is built in the original os and keep it simple and make it work. Other users have reported having the same issues with the built in web browser and email program....Thanks....johnny306
